Coatbridge Coyotes V The Warriors

Sunday the 9th of October saw The Warriors take on the Coatbridge Coyotes in our first game of the season. Going to the Time Capsules with only 9 bodies, 4 of which were new recruits it was always going to be a tough slog against a fast and skillful Coyotes side.  The Warriors never gave in though and despite coming within 2 goals at the beginning of the third period tiredness began to tell and with a flurry of late goals the Coyotes pulled away winning by a margin of 12-6.

Next game sees The Warriors take on the Ayr Lions on the 23rd of October.

End of Season Update

Following on from the previous game against the Glasgow Mustangs winning  8-7 The Warriors have since competed in two tournaments. The first of these being the Scottish Quaich finishing third in our group and narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi finals. This was followed the following weekend with the Carnegie Skyhawks tournament where we came in second place despite scoring over 50 goals and only conceding 3 over the whole weekend. Following this two more games, one against the Kilmarnock Piranhas (22-2) win and the Glasgow Mustangs (8-4) win have rounded off an enjoyable and at times stressful first campaign for The Warriors. On behalf of everyone at the club we would like to thank everyone who contributed and helped us along in our first season. Roll on the 2016/17 Season!

The Warriors vs. Highland Capitals

Saturday 24 January saw The Warriors travel North to Inverness to face the Highland Capitals.  Unlike the first game between the two teams, The Warriors started much the brighter passing up a few guilt-edged opportunities.  After 12 minutes the Highland Capitals took the lead and followed this up with 3 more quick goals to end the first period 4 goals up.

The Warriors managed to steady the ship in the opening exchanges of the second period, which also saw some unbelievable saves from Ross Wallace.  A string of penalties and the loss of defenceman Fraser Bennett to an ankle injury hampered the progress, despite this, the period ended with 2 goals for either team; meaning the score was 6-2 to the Capitals.

The third period was again started brightly by The Warriors, who scored 2 unanswered goals to take the game to within 2 goals.  However, they could not keep up with the relentless pace of the Capitals through a combination of a short bench and travel-weary legs.  The Capitals converted 6 more goals as opposed to the warriors solitary strike to end the game on 12-5 to the Capitals.

The Warriors would like to thank the Highland Capitals for the game and their hospitality, all agreed the game was played in good spirits.

Glasgow Chiefs v The Warriors

Monday the 11th saw The Warriors travel up the M77 to Braehead for what was anticipated to be an exciting game.  Despite being short benched as opposed to the Chiefs four lines, The Warriors grafted hard and put in a solid defensive display and ended the first period down 1-0 whilst squandering a good few chances of their own.

The second period started as an end to end affair with both goaltenders pulling off good saves to keep it at a one goal game, however the Chiefs numerical advantage was beginning to tell at this point and despite some good offensive pressure The Warriors conceded two goals in quick succession to find themselves 3-0 behind.  The Warriors did manage to get one goal back on the board on the powerplay through Jack Milligan, Chris Coles winning the offensive zone faceoff back to Milligan who fired a wrist shot by the Chiefs goaltender.

The third period saw an exhausted Warriors team take the ice determined to compete but found that a lack of skaters and the large,, unaccustomed playing surface factored against them ultimately resulting in two more goals for the Chiefs ending the game with a 5-1 scoreline against The Warriors.

Man of the match was awarded to Ross Wallace in nets who pulled off some top class saves and denied The Chiefs more goals throughout the whole game.  Next game for The Warriors sees them travel North to Inverness on the 23rd of January to take on the Highland Capitals.
